Fourth Annual Medical Fitness Institute
Richmond, Virginia 2012

From June 13-15, 2012, the Medical Fitness Association held the Fourth Annual Medical Fitness Institute at the Richmond Convention Center in Richmond, VA.  We would like to thank the over 40 attendees from around the world for helping to make this event a success.  The speakers and staff were as outstanding as was the focus, excitement and attention. Together we all came away with a world of knowledge that can be applied day to day as we are all inspired to "Move Medical Fitness Forward” in meaningful and profound ways.

Course-ware expounded on subjects such as the Medical Fitness Value Proposition, Communicating with your Healthcare Partner, Strategic Planning and Implementation, Health and Wellbeing Facility Designs, Integration and Importance of the Mind Body Component, Coaching for Health and Wellbeing, and Transitioning Acute Care Patients and Veterans to Mainstream Society Through Medical Fitness.

The Institute also included a firsthand look at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center.  Attendees toured this facility which offers primary, secondary, and tertiary health care in medicine, surgery, neurology, rehabilitation medicine, intermediate care, acute and sustaining spinal cord injury, skilled nursing home care, and palliative care. Primary and secondary levels of care are provided in psychiatry beds, along with a substance abuse rehabilitation program.  Residency programs exist in virtually all general and specialty areas of medicine, rehabilitation, surgery, psychiatry, and dentistry.  The medical center is the host site for a Parkinson's Disease Research, Education and Clinical Center (PADRECC), one of six in the nation.

Thursday night saw the group enjoying an outing at the Diamond to root for the Richmond Flying Squirrels, our local baseball team.  The Institute culminated with a Saturday morning networking breakfast where final points of business and information were exchanged so the Class of 2012 can maintain the connections made during this important event.
